This colon cleanser review is on the product Co-Clean.
As with my many other colon cleanse reviews, I’ll start by looking at the product itself and then move on to the business practices of the company behind Co-Clean.
The Co-Clean product offering consists of 3 cycles: Cleanse and Flush, Detoxify, and Replenish and Maintenance. We’ll go through each one.
This blend is designed to flush out your system and has a number of good fiber ingredients to do so. Co-Clean was nice enough to supply an ingredient label:
While this review won’t debate the efficacy or safety on the ingredients cascara sagrada and senna, some believe that they may be harmful to one’s health if used too much.
Co-Clean says this formula “cleanses, soothes, and replenishes your internal organs by regulating the digestive system.” Below is the ingredient label for the detox powder (although you’ll have to read through the long list in the proprietary blend at the bottom of the label).
This final cycle is said to “attack” any stray matter and cleanse it away. Here’s the label:
All in all the ingredients look pretty good and I really like that they use a multi-step process rather than just having one formula to do the trick.
I was also pleased to see a link below the ingredient label that took you to a seperate ingredients page that listed each ingredient along with a brief description of each. Nice touch.
The website was rather professional and actually provided a good deal of information about the product as well as colon cleansing in general. They did have the over-used CBS video about colon cleansing and used news logos to try to add some credibility, but I’ve seen it done worse.
They have several options but the two basic options are to get the whole 3-step system for $99.99 (a claimed $50 off) or the Cleanse and Flush bottle by itself for $49.99.
The higher quantity you buy, the more of a discount you get.
I went through the ordering process (up until I had to put in my credit card information and didn’t see any big red flags. At the bottom of the order screen, however, you have to check that you agree to the terms and conditions. This is usually where they’ll get you if you’re not careful.
Reading the terms, I found the following:
“In some instances you may opt to automatically renew and be billed for every 24 days to monthly shipments of the product(s) you’ve selected. Based on the product plan you have chosen. Renewals will continue until you cancel your renewal recurrent order(s). Users are financially responsible for all associated renewal and recurrent order fees. “
Now, I’m not exactly sure what “in some instances” means. It didn’t give me an option to choose to be in the auto renew option so I’m not sure if I would or wouldn’t be enrolled. It’s possible that the package I selected won’t have me go the autoship route and that if I was to be enrolled they would warn me somehow. I’m not sure. But if not, then shame on them for not being very forthright about the auto renew option.
They also gave the following instructions for cancelling the order:
“You can cancel your renewal order(s) at anytime. To cancel:
i. Email comments@Co-Clean.com
ii. Provide your order number (which is on your confirmation)
iii. Provide your full name and full contact information
iv. State your wishes to cancel future shipments of your recurrent order
v. For any questions, please call toll-free at ( 888 ) LOOK-NICE
It looks like you have to email them to cancel. I don’t know if they let you cancel over the phone, but if not, that may complicate the process. They also state that, “If you do not hear from us after 5 days, you need to contact us again as we may not have received your request.” That certainly doesn’t put my mind at ease concerning the issue.
At the top of the C0-Clean website they have this money back guarantee emblem. I like to see money back guarantees, but after reading a bit about their possible autoship program I decided to check out the details of the guarantee. I’m glad I did. I turns out there’s not much “Money Back” in the guarantee at all. Not to mention a number of loops that you have to jump through.
From their terms and conditions, here’s the details (I’ve bolded some of the important parts):
“Our “30-Day Multi-Bottle Guarantee” policy allows you to get your initial payment back via a 100% credit for your purchase (excluding shipping and handling) towards the purchase of other nutraceutical dietary supplement products found on our partner website www.lab88.com. This special offer is valid for our nutraceutical dietary supplements including Metabo-Speed, Carbo Delete, Thin Patch, Ambiatol, Irexis, Labidorol and PZ 100. All bottles that are not opened will be accepted for exchanges only. Un-opened bottles returned to us after thirty days will not be covered under the policy. Any bulk, wholesale and discounted products sold at a special one time rate are excluded from this guarantee. Your credit must be applied against any of our other nutraceutical, dietary supplements, that are non-prescription. This guarantee offer supersedes any other offers for a refund. To be eligible for the 30 Day Guarantee you must:
i. Make a written request via email for your credit within 30 days from the date of your order.
ii. Obtain a return authorization code and ship back within 30 days from the date of your order all bottles and products shipped to you in sale-able and sealed unopened condition within its original packaging.
iii. You must purchase a multi-bottle offer(s) with a minimum purchase price of $74.88 + shipping/handling to be eligible for this offer. Single bottle orders are excluded.
iv. Include your order number, full name and contact information including phone number.
v. You must be a first time customer of any of our sites and you must have purchased our product(s) directly via Co-Clean.com.
A restocking fee will be the difference between the price of a item that is under the recurrent billing plan and a price of a single bottle order. The restocking fee shall be applied for any returned products with the above guidelines, and deducted from the credit provided. The restocking fee shall also be applied if the recurrent plan is cancelled before the second order was been shipped out.For any packages that were shipping and refused, a $10 restocking fee will be issued. No cancellations will be accepted after order has been shipped out.
Shipping and handling charges are excluded and are non refundable.”
This may just be the worst “money back” guarantee I’ve seen. Just to be clear: you only get a credit to purchase other products that they sold. Ouch.
Oh, and I found this rather interesting. Co-Clean states that, “As per United State Federal Law, we cannot refund or exchange any open bottles or package.” Well I’m no lawyer, but I’m fairly certain that it’s perfectly legal for them to refund your money on an opened bottle. (It may be illegal for them to resell it, but that’s not what we’re talking about here.) There are plenty of other companies that sell colon cleansers and diet pills that allow you to return opened as well as unopened bottles.
At first I had some troubles getting much info on the company that’s behind Co-Clean. But after digging through their terms and conditions I found that a comapny called Lab88 (also known as Value Marketing, Inc.) is over the Co-Clean product.
Here’s what the BBB had to say about them:
Now I’m entirely sure why they don’t have a letter rating for them like they do with other companies. This could be a good or a bad thing.
The BBB provided a new report that I had never seen that I found interesting:
You’ll notice that the third row of complaints were “Administratively Judged Resolved.” Apparently this means that the company “resolved” the issue but the customer was still dissatisfied (the company probably just agreed to act according to their terms and conditions).
Most of the complaints looked to be concerning their billing practices and their refund practices. Not surprising.
The Co-Clean product looks to be pretty good. I like the 3 step system. The review was going well until I looked in to some of the sales practices and refund policy. I can’t say for certain to which degree Co-Clean is disclosing their autoship program because I personally didn’t see any obvious indication, but that may just be due to the fact that the package I selected wouldn’t set me up for the auto renew. But the BBB’s evidence surely points to the fact that the auto renew and refund policy has taken some people by surprise.
Is it the worst out there? Absolutely not. But now that you know of the possible area for concern in their billing practices, you can make a better informed decision.
