Colon Cleanse - Basics of Cleansing

Many people are intrigued by the wide array of benefits that a colon cleanse can involve, but are unsure of the process. There is a general fear that it may be a complicated process. Learning the fundamentals of colon cleansing goes a long way into restoring someone’s interest in what can be a natural and helpful process. There are different types and levels of cleansing that can be performed, from eating more fresh fruit on one end to the aforementioned enemas, or colon irrigation as it is also known, on the other.

It is beneficial to learn the basics of how the colon functions within the body in order to understand why the need for a colon cleanse method is so great. The digestive system consists of several passageways in which food makes its journey from ingestion to expulsion, with the nutrients being extracted along the way for the body’s benefit. The colon, or large intestine, is the final stop on this journey, and is also the clearing house where waste products can spend the longest amount of time. Unfortunately, sometimes this goes wrong or there is buildup due to natural accumulation processes, and this is when unfortunate symptoms can occur.

Some of the symptoms of waste buildup in the colon can include head ache, body pains, constipation, abdominal cramping, weight gain, and bad skin. Usually it is a mix of symptoms that are hard to pinpoint a cause for. By flushing out the colon through natural methods or otherwise, these symptoms can be alleviated. One of the easiest ways to begin the process is to increase the amount of fiber in one’s diet, which helps bulk up stools and prepare them for elimination. Combining this with natural laxatives is a common colon cleanse.

More severe methods of colon cleanse can include colon hydrotherapy, in which gallons of water are pumped into a person’s colon via the rectum, and then flushed out, removing stubborn waste material that may be clinging to the intestinal walls. This is a method that should be used under the supervision of a professional, as in rare cases it can lead to complications including a punctured colon or other uncomfortable cramping symptoms. The best way to start is to learn more about the different types of cleansing that are available, and then try the more natural and gentle methods first before progressing to harsher methods.
